15 steps to get perfect LinkedIn profile

Posted 1 March 2020

1. Photo. It is important to use a high quality professional photo. According to statistics, the presence of a photograph in the profile increases the number of search impressions by 7 times!

2. First & Last Name. Oddly enough, but sometimes people forget to provide their data.

3. Headline. The title bar under the first and last name allows you to tell who you are, what you do and how you help other people. A well-formed headline is an advertising slogan that attracts people to go to your profile. Limitations: The title is 120 characters long with spaces.

Important: treat the filling of the heading with all responsibility - this is your advertisement. Find words, phrases that will allow you to stand out from the total number of people. No need to be like everyone else - show your personality!

4. City, country, industry. Optional fields, but if you filled them in, the probability of displaying your profile in the search increases when you select the appropriate filter.

5. Contacts. Ready for collaboration? Then fill in all possible contact fields so that you can be easily contacted. Important: only those who are in your first circle can see contact details!

6. Profile Link. By default, your LinkedIn profile address looks something like this: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=14198793, and it’s a little difficult to share with your friends: “Listen, my LinkedIn profile is 14198793”. You can set your profile name, to do this, click the pencil icon near the profile line; as a result, you may get the following address: https://en.linkedin.com/in/yourname.

 7. Summary. Briefly describe your skills and achievements, to whom and how you can help. When writing text, think about what keywords should be in your text, as this affects the display of your profile when searching.

Where to find keywords? First, use the Google Keyword Tool to list popular queries about your topic. Secondly, analyze what people from your industry, your position write about themselves. Thirdly, hire a specialist if you can’t come up with anything yourself. By the way, in order to get help on marketing and lead generation you can use extremely useful Beep2b.com service.

Write from the first person “I have experience in application development ...”, and not from the third “Alexander has experience in application development ...”. This simple technique makes the text more humane.

Important: write your contact details (phone and e-mail) so that anyone (and not just from the first circle) can contact you.

Important: add links to presentations, portfolios, CVs, which allows you to draw attention to important products for you.

8. Experience. Write about all your positions and companies in which you have worked and are currently working. Write in detail, what exactly do you do in the company and what results have been achieved.

For each position that you occupied, you can add informational materials: links to presentations, video presentations, job reviews, etc. Do not neglect this opportunity to fill out your profile with information that will help show your success.

9. Skills. Indicate the skills that you really have, and on the basis of which you want to position yourself on LinkedIn. Important: get confirmation of the availability of skills from colleagues from the first circle.

10. Recommendations. Have you done a great project and have you been praised? Ask a person to write a few lines on your LinkedIn profile about what good you did in the project, why he liked working with you, a few words about the results of the collaboration. Having recommendations helps you make the first decision about starting communication with you.

11. Publications. If you write or wrote articles, then add links to them in this section.

12. Honors & Awards. If you have something to be proud of and you can talk about it, then tell us!

13. Languages. Indicate knowledge of foreign languages.

14. Additional Info. Fill this section with information that does not exist in the previous sections, but you consider it important to report it.

You should pay special attention to the Interests section - these are tags that allow you to be in a group of people who have the same words on their profile. And yes, your interests influence the display of the profile when searching for these words.

15. Groups. Groups play an important role on LinkedIn because they allow you to instantly chat with people outside your first circle. Few people know that you can directly send a message to people with whom you are in the same group. Therefore, join groups with the maximum number of participants and be an active member.
