- I have written a short story which is based on a real incident that took place in Jamaica, West Indies. I would like to transform this into a children's book with illustrations. The illustrator must understand how to draw tropical scenery, black people that look good, with the proper racial characteristics and be able to translate emotions such as shock, fear, surprise, wonderment, happiness, and a winners exultation. Someone who can draw the elements (wind, rain, storm) would be good. The protagonist, Boyd, is a good looking man. The men in the bar must show different characteristics and their expressions can hint at their character. They are 'rum-heads' so can look seedy, but not menacing. They are ordinary rural farming folk, despite their love of rum.
The writing is not formulaic, and therefore may make heavy reading, however, I need to see which illustrations can assist as I adjust the language. I will accept any form of illustration - including anime/manga, caricature, cartoon/comics, true to life art as long as the drawings accurately represent people and do not devolve into illustrations like, for example, the cartoon series 'Rugrats"
The sample uploaded is an excerpt from the first few pages of the book, setting the stage for Boyd to reminisce on the fatal NewMarket Flood of several years before.
