- I wish to work with an artist who loves robotics. Three parts to the project you can bid on one or all of them.
1. Draw three objects. (tube, tube tip, ball and socket joint)
2. Combine the objects into a section that has the segment assembled. Combine the segments (4) to form a completed leg. Position the leg a few different ways.
3. Animate the arm segment from a folded position outward and upward into the classic shape of a spider’s leg, then have it flex and at each ball and socket joint have a red dot that glows in unison in a menacing way. Then, animate in reverse to fold up.
a. Duplicate the arm segment animation seven times around a half circle, have all eight legs open up simultaneously as a spider would unwrap itself. Have all glow. Have all retreat and fold back up.
I've broken it out into three parts.
Part One:
1. A rigid black, blemish resistant carbon fiber tube that never gets wider than a musician drumstick. Tapered like a drum stick from a wide end to a narrower end. Blemish resistant surface.
2. A ball and socket joint that is a diameter that has a base fitting into the narrow tube end. The tip protruding from the base fitting is a ball tip (think of a mallet) that will fit into a rubber gasket described in number three.
3. Ball tip is a motor that will rotate the tube above a segment up and down 180 degrees and right and left 180 degrees. It is held in place as the ball seats into a rubber gasket that is concave and open ended to allow the servo to be plugged in with a click and provides a firm seating. (Looks like the end of a toilet plunger)
So:
A. Create the individual parts. (stick, gasket, ball and socket)
B. Put eight segments together to make a complete spider leg.
Part Two: A second part is to animate it from a folded position to extend it like a spider would extend or unfold its segments. As it does that when extended in a spider-like way, it should flex, menacingly, slowly, with a series of red dots appearing at the point of each ball and socket that glow momentarily than turn off.
The combined leg segment will then be used seven additional times with the legs around a half-round base that represents the spider’s body. Just to have all eight legs animate together positioned around a semi-circle will be fine.
Part Three: The third part of this animation is to show how the insertion of the ball and socket works into the larger tube end that has the gasket. (Pushing it in seats the ball motor, pushing it in again releases it)
The ability to insert one section into another and another, click in in to secure, nice snug fit, then, push in again to release if you wanted to take it apart. Every section is identical so ultimately, the need is to show sections being put together to make a spider’s leg. The idea is to take a ball joint end and connect it to the gasket end of a second segment piece and repeat that animation of that coupling until there is a full four section leg. (about 96 inches) Then, fold it up, sideways accordion style, to assume its starting position.
Keep in mind the goal is first to show how the sections fold and unfold to take a certain straight or angled shape. Then have eight legs around a semi circle do that in unison.
