- We are starting a non-profit to promote inclusion of all people. As part of our mission, we are developing a log that will become synonymous with the inclusion/acceptance of all people to live as who they are. We are looking for rough ideas (not fully developed deliverables). We will review all proposed designs and accept the one we feel most captures the idea of inclusion. The accepted designer will then be hired to fully develop the concept. We believe that the symbol itself should represent inclusion and the colors should enhance that message. We are leaving it open as to whether you want to submit your concept in color or grey scale. Ideally, you will be passionate about the concept of our mission and the idea of contributing to a more inclusive world Please read paragraph below). We will be accepting 3 artists proposals at this time. If you want to provide a rough idea of your concept with your proposal, we will look at those as well. The current budget limit is for the "rough idea" only. The production budget will be agreed upon with the final artist. Feel free to email with any questions.

Why is this important? If you are not a person who deals with being marginalized every day simply for being who you are, it may be hard to understand. But for many people, being told that who they are as a person is "wrong." Or, that they are not as good as others because of their race, their weight, religion, age, physical or mental capability, sexual orientation, socio economic background or other reasons, is common. If you don't already know why inclusion is important for the wellbeing of all people, we ask you to take a step into the world of those who are marginalized. Or perhaps imagine your child having to deal with a non-inclusive world where they are ignored, left out, ridiculed, or worse, simply for being who they are. Is that the world you want to live in? Is that the world you want your children to live in?
Being inclusive is easy. You don't need to protest at City Hall. You don't need to march on Washington or take a knee at the super bowl. To be inclusive, you just need to acknowledge that there are many different types of people. Different races, religious backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, physical and mental capabilities, etc. And that they ALL deserve love and respect equally. It is important to note that you need not understand why they are who they are. It is simply an acknowledgement that you believe they have the right to be who they are comfortable being just as much as you have the right to be who you are. It's literally that simple.
The inclusion project was born from a conversation about a trans-gender youth who was suicidal. During a conversation with the counselor, the youth said he had attempted suicide because he didn't belong in this world. That nobody accepted him. Being in high school at the time, he found that nobody accepted him. The counselor said that many people in the world would accept him, but that he just doesn't know those people yet. When this story was relayed to me, I wished that the youth had some way of knowing that many of the people he passed by every day would accept him just as he is. This spawned the idea for a symbol that would stand for inclusion. Someone seeing the inclusion symbol, would, without even exchanging words, know that that person is accepting of them.
