Deadlock period: harmful advices to freelancers

Posted 25 June 2019

Most people start freelancing in search of personal freedom and financial independence. “You know for sure that you can do more than at the office, and it’s inspiring. The plans are to squeeze the working day up to 3-4 hours and to conquer the world, plus earn certainly not less than your former boss”.

Unfortunately, sometimes the whole plot develops by an alternative script: after a few years, you discover that life has turned into a solid working day, which is interrupted (if lucky) only for sleep and food, and incomes remain as unstable as the Bitcoin course.

About how freelancers succeed, written a lot of information. But today we gonna share with you a list of harmful advices that you need to follow constantly, to not move a step forward in your freelancing career. By the way, you can do it right now completely unconsciously.

Never raise prices for your services

Remember an euphoria from the first project on freelance? How much have you earned: five dollars, twenty-five, or maybe even a hundred? Remember how you wanted to take on every new order with a tripled force? Continue by the same token! Or you can work for years in the same project, don't looking for new opportunities and become known as a good but cheap specialist. You won't have lack of work, as well as free time. And a decent income.

In fact, you can cooperate at initial prices, perhaps, only with the first client, who is not forgotten, as the first love.

Always get to any work

Even underpaid, urgent or not in your category. And don't take any surcharges! Does the client get in touch at half past midnight, in the "peak of a working day,"  and asks to finish the project until the morning, in the process sending new and new edits ... Drop all everything and start a survival marathon!

Don't be afraid to lose customers who are not ready for an open dialogue and bonus system, who only impose work and want everything to be done in the best possible way for minimal rates. “Oh, you always help me out like that, thank you,” — doesn't count. For urgent, additional and extra-hour work you should always ask from 10 to 50 percent over your standard amount!

Make the result ideal

The client doesn't seem completely satisfied? Or do you see the lack in a task and know how it will be better? Hurry up to make edits and do it for free! Plus you can just redo everything from beginning, especially if the client suddenly changed his mind and decided to switch the initial task!

“In trying to reach perfection we often spoil what is or might be good enough” — wrote William Shakespeare. And he was undoubtedly right. If you want to maintain emotional balance, as well as successfully complete projects and make money —  forget about the perfectionism.

Take criticism as a personal offense

Usually your first clients are your teachers, meantime. And a criticism is common not only for beginners but also for professionals. At the same time, each performer has two ways: to treat criticism as free lessons or to never seek compromises, offer alternative solutions or make corrections. To be offended by the whole world and to demand money for poor quality work.

What to choose in order to further your career?

Always choose the conflicting clients

The client doesn't know what he want and criticizes each result he gets? There is no clear project description, limited deadlines, and the amount of payment is vague? Do you get a call at the slightest, or  completely ignored vice versa? Just what you need! Get started as quickly as you can!

Do you want not to develop your career, but to reverse it? Don't learn how to say "no" because it's embarrassing and painful, and when there aren't enough orders, it's scary too. You’re the one who came to freelancing to turn your favorite deal into a Botany Bay,  aren’t you?

Don’t waste time for studying

Who needs these seminars, webinars, books and lessons? You already know how to do your job, have already finished a lot of projects, and all your customers were satisfied! Ugh, new technologies or tools, for what are they? The main thing is to know the basis! The rest is just pumping out money. Certificates are generally useless, just a piece of paper on the wall. Studying and all these blah-blah-blah came up with the cunning ones for enrichment, there is no benefit from them.

Sounds ridiculous, but not everyone understands that gig economy implies dynamism, pro-activity and constant development. If you don't follow for the pace, you get off. Such is the nowadays reality and it must be accepted.

Give up teamwork

You are such a great specialist that you can create websites, design them, develop mobile applications, write texts, promote businesses and lead client accounts at the same time ... It doesn’t matter that you aren’t sleeping at all, and your loved ones don’t remember how you look. Delegation is for the wimps!

We've already written about why teamwork is useful both for freelancers and employers. And also why it's easy and profitable to do it at Beesy.pro. But we don't insist on anything —  your life, your choices.

We have more than a dozen of such harmful advices but the ones above will be enough to stuck at the same level even 10 years pass. Or to decide that freelancing is a trash and not for you at all. Don't do it this way, friends! Develop and work with pleasure, this is why we created Beesy.pro!
