Description: I have a client that does branding of shopping carts and wants to develop a communication document to showcase the benefits to potential vendors in advertising their products and services over the alternative options.

here is a breakdown of the information:

iCart is an innovative branding opportunity for organizations to reach its target market during their final product selections.

With the unique “5-Points of Promotion” the shopping cart is used as a moving billboard exposing different messages to both the person pushing and the person passing the shopping cart. With direct line-of-sight, the shopper will constantly focus on your brand due to ideal ad placement.

The Five-Points of Promotion include:
1. Cart Handle
2. Flip-Up Child Seat Inside
3. Flip-Up Child Seat Outside
4. Front of the Cart Inside
5. Front of the Cart Outside

DOWNFALLS OF THE ALTERNATIVES

1. Newspaper - full page and half page - Highly competitive for a short shelf life. People often throw away or repurpose old newspapers after a single read. The target market is unpredictable but a low readership in the younger generations is guaranteed.

2. Television - This is a high cost medium, which has a high risk value. People can habitually change the channel or lower the volume during commercials, while the further your ad is in the commercial segment, the lower the attention it will receive. Rapid advertisements face added pressure in clarity and creativity.

3. Radio - Due to its fleeting nature it is difficult to often note numbers or important information that the advertisement tried to convey, especially while driving. Listeners are often distracted while listening to the ad and may only absorb parts or even none at all, if they change the station.

4. Billboard - static and digital - Again, high cost advertising for a very brief exposure. As a result of this brief exposure, there is room on the board for limited information in order so seize visibility. While it targets many people, it does not target a specific market and provides no means of feedback.

5. Direct Snail Mail - It can be difficult to predict mail delivery times when using direct mail advertising. Timing is crucial to discount and giveaway advertising. This medium has a low response rate as people often instantly throw away flyers. The environmental implications are the least positive when compared to other advertising alternatives.

6. Mass Emailing - Commercial emails or 'spam' irritates consumers. Untargeted emails may be deleted or the recipient may unsubscribe. The 'click through rate' for untargeted emails is likely to be very low. Mass email marketing must also comply with privacy and data protection rules.
