- This is a technical assessment of a PLC simulator for a simple servo motor setup. If the job is excepted, I will send link to download simulator.
In this model, we have a Transfer Upper Ram (TUR) and an Upper Ram (UR) assembly. The TUR runs horizontally with 6 positions: Centerline (CL), FIS 1, FIS 2, FIS 3, FIS 4, and FIS 5. Any of the FIS positions can be the “Home” position. In the Graphic1 window, you can select the FIS position you’d like to work as the Home position in the upper right-hand part of the screen. This position can be input in the text box directly below the selector buttons.
The UR runs vertically with 3 positions: Home, Fast Approach Level (FAL), and Work Line (WL). The names of these positions aren’t important for now.
Some notes on the basic functionality of the system:
Drives must be enabled before moving (buttons all in Graphic1 window)
Errors and messages are displayed in the Red and Blue windows at the top of the Graphic1 window. All errors and messages which are not automatically acknowledged require the Error Quit button (top left of Graphic1 window)
The UR cannot travel below Home position unless the TUR is in CL position
If the TUR is not in CL and a new UR position is selected, the TUR should automatically move to CL
If the TUR is not in CL and a new UR position is selected, a blue message should be generated which blocks the movement of the UR until the TUR is in the correct position
If the UR is not in Home and a new TUR position is selected, the same rules should apply.
General information about the TrySim application:
The application acts like a real PLC.
It is necessary to put the PLC into run (should be by default when opening the project).
It is necessary to download program changes to the running PLC
Once a PLC function block is opened, it only displays one network at a time. The down arrows allow you to scroll through the multiple networks.
When monitoring a program in statement list view, the 4 monitoring columns are RLO, Status, Accumulator 1, and Accumulator 2
If there is an instruction that you are not aware of or are unsure, select or place your cursor next to it and press the F1 key. This should open up the help window for the selected instruction.
Scope of work:
Familiarize yourself with the application.
There are several different views and tools at your disposal. The most common ones are in the icon bar at the top of the application window (The available icons change depending on the selected window).
Familiarize yourself with the PLC program.
I’d like to be able to ask you how errors are generated and acknowledged, why certain functions may work the way they do. Be sure to have a good understanding of how the system is working from the program level as well as what potential problems could occur.
Troubleshoot the PLC program – Problem #1:
Cannot move to FIS position 3
Make modifications as necessary to resolve this issue (Be sure to download changes to the PLC)
Troubleshoot the PLC program – Problem #2:
Moving to position 4 generates a watchdog error
Make modifications as necessary to resolve this issue (Be sure to download changes to the PLC)
Troubleshoot the PLC program – Problem #3:
When the TUR is not home, the UR generates a watchdog error before the UR starts moving
Make modifications as necessary to resolve this issue (Be sure to download changes to the PLC)
BONUS:
Describe way to optimize Watchdog errors
No modifications necessary. I would only like to discuss different options for making the watchdog errors more accurate and more responsive to errors.
Modify the model.
Add a position for FIS 6. This should include lengthening the Transfer Upper Ram and adding a 5th sensor.
Modify the program.
Add the 6th position to the program as you would if requested from a customer. It should work in the same way as the other positions. This should also include error handling.
