- Small IT consulting firm located in lower Northeast Philadelphia is seeking a 1099 subcontractor to assist with random service calls (either remotely or on-site) and providing expert support in addressing client technical problems. The primary task of this position will be fulfilling service requests at client sites or remotely via a web based remote support system, but there will also be requests that require an onsite presence.
A majority of service requests will be for short engagements: reporting to a client site, or remotely logging into a client's system and completing the service request, most of which are repairing some configuration or performance issue on a Windows based device. Both cases will require some interaction with the customer in person or by telephone.
This position is ideal for those with a flexible schedule. Work will be assigned as it becomes available and based on your availability, and will fluctuate depending on incoming service requests. Some assignments will be for larger scale projects (deploying new systems, migrations, emergencies) with flexible scheduling in certain cases.
Work will be dispatched by telephone or email with access to an online helpdesk for viewing outstanding service requests and closing tickets. You will be assigned work based on your availability and ability. Some jobs may require immediate attention (i.e. responding to a down server or NAS drive), others can be scheduled according to your schedule.
Most work will be based in Center City Philadelphia, with some work in Bucks or Montgomery County.
The position requires mastery of the following technologies: Microsoft Windows XP thru 10, Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, Active Directory, Comcast & Verizon modems/routers/FIOS, understanding of DHCP, DNS in a Windows environment, basic PC/laptop hardware diagnostics & repair. Network troubleshooting. Familiarity with firewalls. Apple and Linux skills are not required but are a plus. Familiarity/ability to migrate systems, including Windows servers is a plus, as is experience working with VOIP PBX systems. Other technologies include: QNAP NAS drives, Ubiquiti Edgerouters and WiFi APs/Unifi system, OwnCloud, ExpanDrive, Google G-Suite and DNS management.
Tools you should be familiar with: WinSCP, Putty, AdvancedIP Scanner, HyperTerminal, TeamViewer, AnyDesk, FileZilla, HyperTerminal.
Bonus if you are familiar with Sangoma's FreePBX system.
If you are chosen for the position you must have a working, robust laptop, and be willing to install a softphone app on your cellphone to connect into our cloud based PBX phone system. A physical VOIP phone may be provided in the future.
The candidate must have the ability to identify and remove malware from a system. Mastery of iPhones, iPads and Android based smartphones. You must have a proven track record of being able to work independently, identify problems, and efficiently resolve them in a timely manner. Our client base uses a diverse set of technologies, and will require the candidate to learn and master the various applications used by the different clients. Above all, you must be customer friendly and have a pleasant demeanor when working with customers, even in difficult situations. Customer service is as important as technical skill!

The starting rate for this position is $25/hr. and does not cover travel time for any assignments in the Philadelphia region. Other expenses will be handled on a case-by-case basis (i.e. parking fees, tolls, etc).
Subcontractor will be required to report their time either in the helpdesk or through an email before leaving the client site. Subcontractor will submit an invoice at the end of each month, and the invoice will be paid net 30 days.
