Description
I'll pay you $20 - I am putting together an induction launcher. I need help with a couple things. I’ve tried forums and blogs but end up with trolls or no answers.

I want to connect an electromagnet to a battery and turn it on/off with a switch.

I need you to tell me how to connect everything AND what parts to buy and how to safely connect them. If possible I’d like to use the battery I have but You would need to provide very specific info on what parts to buy, I’ll need links to the online store of where to buy this stuff;
-Battery(if needed)
-Switch
-Wiring and connectors for between the switch, battery and electromagnet(I may have suitable wires)
-Core material(5mm diameter - iron, something for consumers with high permeability)
-Magnet wire(if you have a better suggestion than what I found - thicker the better!)

AND we will have to exchange a few emails regarding this UNTIL it is right.

Battery: I have a 6000mAh lipo battery, which is 6 amps - I’d like to use this if possible. Can you tell me if this battery will even work for what I am trying to do? If not suggest a better power source.

Switch: I want something like a push button where pressing and holding is ‘on’ and releasing/resting is ‘off’. NOT something like a light switch.

Electromagnet: This is where I need some clarification. I’d like to just wind the coils myself but need someone to help me understand how many turns and how long the core should be. I have an idea what magnet wire to buy but need help on the core material too.

I would like to launch an object - so a short strong field to launch NOT levitate.

The object will be 3x the weight of the electromagnet - So the electromagnet needs to lift 3x its own weight. Smaller the size and weight the better. (I’ll design what it’s lifting later)

I’d like the electromagnet to launch the object 20cm high.

I found 7 AWG square magnet wire, that’s the thickest I found in small consumer size quantities. Here is a link to a chart with the wire gauge info with the diameter and weight.
