Your brand identity: how to draw a perfect logo?

Posted 18 March 2019

It sounds trite, but the logo is truly the face of the company, according to which consumers, partners and competitors make their first judgments about your business.

So how to draw a logo and don’t screw up? We've prepared several important tips for you about a perfect logo creation. Whether it’s possible, of course.

1. If you don't know how to start, explore the market and customer needs, instead of searching for trends. Ask the target audience what associations they have with you and your graphic representation.

Define your company goals and your own vision of it. Compare, make some sketches and ask for proven designers help. Our logo-design freelancers can help you, as well.

2. Point out, that the logo has to be universal and look fully without reference to the graphic name. Either it must look good in combination with different elements and in diverse colors. Moreover, designers’ mistakes don't mean creativity. For example, serif fonts do not combine with vivid elements. Though there are many theories about color coding, geometry forms and compactness, in practice, the status of 'ideal brand identity' can get anything (just note Apple)

3. Attention: clients mustn’t understand what your logo means! If the name or the main characters are well viewed in color on a large monitor, but not readable on business cards or on a black and white print, change it. The font should be read in any resolution. The name should be indicated clearly, not guessed. Check your logo everywhere, starting from the screens of POS-terminals to huge ad banners.

4. To be memorable, draw with a logo some story and convey emotions. It’s not the best choice to represent a strickt Law Firm with an image of a cartoon kitty, for the first glance. But if you can connect it with a strong association, why not? But mention, the more simple the logo is, the better the brand is kept in mind.

5. Clones are short-lived. Brands, planning to enter the market and stay there for a long time, should reach out from the competitors. The time when big companies wanted a logo that looked similar to well-known companies has gone. Be yourself and try to inspire others.

6. Be alive. Don’t follow all trends and don’t shift your logo too often. But be open to innovation, fresh thoughts and audience’s changes. In other words, feel the pulse and develop all the time.

And don’t forget: the brand won’t work without a quality product. You will return to the cafe only if the food was tasty, don’t matter how awesome its name or interior are. Nike has a great logo, but the company would never have gained fame if they hadn’t produced high-quality sneakers. Even the weirdest and lame version of the logo will not cause global harm to your sales if your product is rock.

And at last, answering the question whether it’s possible to draw a perfect logo, you need to understand that even if you create a flawless logo to your mind, there will always be people who don’t like it.
